Hi Kingdom of Gems fans,
I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas. I’m having a great time with my family.
I’m very excited about the publication of The Silver Well. Yes, it will be in February/March. You might be saying “At last!” – so am I! It is a great relief, and my plan is to follow it up with The Glass Prison in later 2010 as well. I decided I had to get the rest of the trilogy in print as soon as possible for all the people who have been waiting with such enthusiastic anticipation. I am fed up with waiting for a publisher to jump on board, which is a real puzzle because Candara’s Gift has sold very well and is extremely popular, but it seems to be a stage that nearly every author has to go through, even J.K Rowling! Harry Potter was turned down many times and only got into print because a publisher’s daughter read a couple of sample chapters and liked it. Anyway, I am fed up with waiting, so I am going ahead myself.
Having completely finished working on the 3 books of The Kingdom of Gems (KOG) trilogy, I recently got back in touch with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Remember, they are the world’s biggest Hollywood agency and very interested in making films of KOG. So, it’s good news again… the film interest is still very much alive.
RECENT EVENTS
I enjoyed a wonderful visit to Alderton Junior School in Essex recently. Here’s a picture. There is a lot more info about my school visits on my website.
There have been two recent signing events. One at the Kennett Shopping Centre in Newbury, where my stall was next to Anneke Wills, who was the first Doctor Who girl back in 1966!
I visited The Canterbury Indoor Tennis Centre, where I play – you know what a keen tennis player I am! Here’s a couple of photos of me presenting a copy of Candara’s Gift for the player who made the coach, Simon Grieve, smile the most in their final squad session before Christmas!
That’s all for the moment. I will keep blogging regularly now to keep you in touch with any new developments – books, films, or anything else.
Christmas and New Year Greetings,
Jasper
Where will we be able to buy it? I’ve been waiting for this news for ages! Can’t wait to finally get to read the rest of the trilogy!
January 5, 2010 @ 7:30 amHi Suzan,
I’m so glad that you enjoyed the good news! The Silver Well will be available on this site. Have you seen my shop called Tally’s Stall? It’s in the very early stages of development and doesn’t look much yet, but I have plans for selling other things as well as books. For example, prints of my artwork… maps, paintings, ink illustrations, models of characters, t-shirts and more. So keep looking out! I could email you, if you wish… let me know.
I am expecting to get the final book of The Kingdom of Gems trilogy out soon after. You probably know it’s called The Glass Prison. So, it’s going to be a very exciting year for KOG!
The Silver Well will probably be stocked by Waterstones too, and Amazon.
Thanks for writing… best wishes,
Jasper
January 5, 2010 @ 12:12 pmHi Jasper
That is great news. I did get in touch with you some time ago re an update. Like Suzan, I am looking forward to getting my hands on The Silver Well, and The Glass Prison later this year. Glad you have persevered.
I live in Australia and will gladly buy direct from you -would love ypu to sign and date it 🙂 as well as a doodle drawing if possible, pretty please.
Thanks
PS – bet you’ve already thought out more ideas for new stories – actually, I bet they’re written 🙂
And the movie idea is really neat.
January 7, 2010 @ 6:30 amHi Chris,
Great to hear from you. I remember hearing from you before and enjoying your enthusiasm for the books then!
You are right about me having new ideas for new stories. The Silver Well has a timeline in it with lots of details about events leading up to the time of Candara’s Gift. I have started writing a series of short stories about some of these event which link with characters in Candara’s Gift. I also have a rough map on a larger scale of the land surrounding The Kingdom of Gems… 20 kingdoms, with notes on what the kingdoms are like etc. So all that is making the fantasy world richer. So, there’s lots to come!
I am intending to have signed editions for sale on the sight… we can certainly sort something out for you… you are my special Australian fan!
Keep in touch,
Jasper
January 7, 2010 @ 7:18 amHi Jasper,
I keep trying to find Tally’s Stall but I can’t! Could you email me when I can buy The Silver Well! I bought a signed copy of your first book from Waterstones and would like to carry on the tradition so please let me know if you do put some signed copies of The Silver Well on sale as I would defintely like to buy a signed edition 🙂
Thanks Suzan
February 25, 2010 @ 2:44 pmHi Suzan,
I put you on my emailing list, so you should be getting all the info through about The Silver Well and everything else. Let me know if you are not receiving these. A short story – the first of many – is now available.
Things are really gathering momentum now with The Silver Well out within 2 weeks.
Tally’s Stall does pop up if you go on the home page and wait a few seconds. However, it is in it’s early days and will be looking much better soon.
All the best,
Jasper
